Sustainability

Our sites have a constant and evolutionary dialogue with their nature rich environs. Therefore our approach to sustainability is incredibly proactive and we have made positive steps to reduce our impact on the environment as we continue to research new methods to improve our procedures.

Life Water

Through our purchase of Life Water, donations are made to the drop-to-drop charity funding freshwater projects. At the start of 2023, Colicci’s first 3 projects in Tamil Nadu, India, were complete, providing clean water to 1,856 people.  Purchases from the first half of 2023 have funded an additional 2 clean water projects in Gambia, providing clean water to 500 people.

Ecology

In 2021 Colicci signed up to the Climate Neutral Now pledge. Pleading to work to become climate neutral, measure our greenhouse gas emissions, plan to reduce those emissions, and consider global emission reductions and offsetting emissions. As part of our carbon reduction pledge, we are planting trees and offsetting our carbon emissions with Ecology. For every 1,000 hot drinks sold a tree is planted with Ecology and for every 50 trees planted, 1 tonne of carbon is offset.

Ecology funds climate projects around the world, from Protecting peatland in Indonesia, planting forests in Uganda and investing in wind power in Mexico.  3,349 trees have been planted to date.

Bio Bean

Since February 2016, Colicci has been collaborating with Bio-Bean to collect and re-purpose ground coffee waste. Since 2016, we have successfully diverted more than 768 tonnes of coffee grounds from being dumped in landfills. When coffee grounds are disposed of in landfills, they release methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas, 28 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. Not only is landfill disposal harmful to the environment, but it is also an expensive method of waste disposal. A life-cycle assessment conducted by Bio-Bean revealed that sending waste coffee grounds to their facility results in 60% less CO2 emissions than sending them to a landfill.
